Russia Completes Nuclear Fuel Deliveries to India for Reactor
Russia completed deliveries of nuclear fuel for the Kudankulam power plant state-controlled contractor ZAO Atomstroyexport is building in India.
The last fuel consignment arrived June 25, exactly a month after the deliveries started for the first of the two reactors Atomstroyexport is building, the Moscow-based company said in an e-mailed statement today. The fuel's enrichment is at 4.1 percent, compared with the 80 percent needed to be of weapons grade, the company said.
The Kudankulam plant, which will be operated by the Nuclear Power Corp. of India Ltd., has the potential to operate six reactors. Russia and India signed an agreement in February for Atomstroyexport to build another four reactors at Kudankulam and other sites.
